About Sajam Slam

Sajam Slam is a fighting game event that is focused on community, learning and demonstrating just how fun fighting games can be.

Streamers who are interested in learning fighting games get grouped in teams with professional fighting game players who act as their coach for the event. Each team will contain one player in each of the four skill brackets, ranging from total beginner to more experienced, and teams spend a week training with their coach on stream to prepare for a series of round robin tournaments. In these tournaments, each player plays against the others in their skill bracket, trying to earn points for their team before the final tournament to decide the ultimate winner.

The hallmark of Sajam Slam is showcasing how fun it can be to learn fighting games, especially with friends. Players and coaches are encouraged to stream their grind sessions and fans get to watch their rapid improvement alongside friendly banter and trash talk, all while breaking down the stereotype that fighting games are too intimidating to learn.

Sajam ran the first Sajam Slam in March 2024, choosing the newly released Tekken 8 as the first game. The response was so positive that a second Slam was run just two months later, and in the first year, a total of four Slams were run across Tekken 8 and Street Fighter 6. The stakes for the final tournament increased as well, initially being run online but quickly finding homes in venues such as TwitchCon and offering prizes such as a trip to Japan to compete against Japanese content creators.
